URBAN CF

We aim to investigate the utility of non-invasive urinary biomarkers (including KIM-1, NGAL and NAG) as markers of aminoglycoside-induced nephrotoxicity in children with CF. A cohort of children with CF will provide regular urine samples for biomarker analysis at their routine outpatient clinic appointments. This will allow comparison of baseline biomarker values in aminoglycoside-exposed to aminoglycoside-naive CF patients, and comparison of baseline biomarker values in children with CF with biomarker values in healthy children (recruited as part of another study).

Those children, recruited to the cohort, who receive one or more courses of treatment with IV tobramycin during the study period will also provide more frequent urine samples during the course of tobramycin. This will allow identification of acute changes in renal biomarkers during tobramycin treatment.
